Lunugamvehera
Deep in the South of Sri Lanka, in a heat-ridden, poverty-stricken, drought-threatened region of the Island, where much of the population struggles to scrape a scant living by the precarious means of fishing or farming, lies Lunugamvehera, a small town of citizens.

The establishing of the first Bridge2Peace Montessori House of Children in 2007 was the catalyst for change that permeated the whole community. In a social fabric saturated by a single language and religion and dominated by a mono-culture, the introduction of tri-lingual, multi-cultural education, and the establishing a Peace curriculum in the
heat of the raging civil war, sent shock-waves reverberating through the landscape. Initial aggressive resistance has transformed into whole-hearted support and a high demand for the places in the programme each year.
